Travelers still worried about flights. Here's why

The number of canceled flights increased on Tuesday at airports across the nation, and it's expected to grow even more by Friday if the federal government shutdown continues. As of Tuesday afternoon, tracking website FlightAware reported more than 1,500 cancellations and more than 12,000 delays at airports nationwide. BWI-Marshall had cancellations and delays on its flight boards that included 4% cancellations and 3% delayed flights. Airlines are contacting customers directly to inform them about flight cancellations before they head to the airport. All was calm Tuesday at BWI-Marshall, where Transportation Security Administration checkpoint lines remained short through the afternoon, even with reduced staffing to screen passengers.
