Maryland Food Bank expects greater demand from SNAP cuts

The Maryland Food Bank is responding to the looming funding halt for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits. On Oct. 10, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said debit cards used by SNAP beneficiaries to buy groceries will not be reloaded as of Nov. 1 if the federal government shutdown continues. The nonprofit Maryland Food Bank is preparing for an unprecedented rise in need across its statewide network of food pantries.
