A Hampden resident is working to help her neighbors in need by handing out food alongside candy this Halloween. Rachel Warren is collecting nonperishable food items for families in need as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits dry up Saturday amid the continuing federal government shutdown. She said Hampden has a ton of foot traffic during the spooky evening, which offers a chance to make a difference in Baltimore, where food insecurity is a major issue. Warren told WBAL-TV 11 News that the food items will be left on an unmanned table with bags for anyone who needs it. She said there will also be information for local food banks, pantries and community fridges on the table.
