Shutdown threatens some construction projects in Maryland

With no end in sight, the government shutdown is threatening the future of planned construction projects in Maryland. The feds and the state are helping to foot the bill for a massive public works project which includes a construction site where an enormous tunnel boring machine is digging a 5,300-foot tunnel through rock. More than $18 million is officially flowing from the state to Howard County to help pay for the extended North Tunnel Project, a key component of the flood mitigation plan in the wake of fatal flash floods that destroyed parts of historic Ellicott City.
