Restoration of a 1950s Hand-Powered Washing Machine - An Incredible Challenge!

In this video, I restore a hand-powered wooden washing machine made in Czechoslovakia.
About the Restoration Process:
When I first saw it, I was genuinely shocked by its condition—rust everywhere, water-damaged wood, and layers of dirt. But despite its state, I knew it would make a fantastic subject for a restoration video. This project turned out to be truly unique.
The biggest surprise came from inside the machine, where I discovered an old manual wringer likely produced in former Czechoslovakia by the national company Solo Sušice. While Solo Sušice is more famously known for its match production, the company also manufactured other products, including household appliances like manual wringers and washing machines. Their factory in Sušice was a well-known symbol of industrial progress in the town's history.

Label Details:
The label I found on the machine reads as follows:
National enterprise: Solo Sušice
Ministry of Forestry and Wood Industry
Main Directorate IV
Branch: DL. Ves
Product type: Wringer (Manual washing machine wringer)
Model: Ž 54
Consumer price (Czechoslovak koruna): 140 Kčs

In 1954, this Ždímačka Ž 54 manual washing machine with its integrated wringer was sold for 140 Kčs. To understand its value today, we can compare it to the average monthly wage of around 1,000 Kčs during the 1950s. This means the washer represented 14% of a typical monthly salary. If we translate that into modern equivalents, it would cost about CZK 6,020, which is approximately €240.
This machine was primarily used in rural and remote areas where electricity was not yet available at that time. Many places in Central and Eastern Europe lacked electricity in the 1950s.

If you want to learn more about this antique manual washing machine and see the entire restoration process, I encourage you to watch this video.
At the end, I perform a live test to show you exactly how this washer works!
I hope I covered everything, but if you have any questions, feel free to comment, and I'll be happy to get back to you!
Cheers! Johnny
