There's no shortage of bright and brilliant minds at the University of Maryland, so it's no surprise that artificial intelligence technology is taking off on campus. Students at the College Park campus showed off some of their AI creations that are aimed at reinventing the world. One such device is autonomous robotic triage, which is a robot that's able to identify the severity of a person's injuries and how badly they need help. The team envisions using the device in a situation in which there are more casualties than medics. Another piece of technology students created is a Mario Kart simulation developed to teach AI how to safely drive by playing the game. This could be used for self-driving car technology. AI may also help Maryland's watermen as one group of students made a sonar system to help scan oysters. Currently, the only way to count oysters in the Chesapeake Bay is through dredging. Also, students thought up an AI chatbot to answer phones and even make food deliveries for food banks. All of these students hope their technology makes it out of the lab and into our daily lives.
