A host of new laws took effect in Maryland on Oct. 1, including one that requires licensed cosmetologists, barbers and nail technicians to undergo new training to recognize signs of domestic violence. Whether it's trims, cuts or a little lineup, barbers get close and personal with their clients. Christian Tillery, a barber, said some clients often share personal details about their lives.
