A Maryland state senator and former sheriff will soon take over the Maryland State Police amid the departure of Col. Roland Butler. Maryland State Police Superintendent Col. Roland Butler is retiring on Nov. 1, the governor's office announced Friday afternoon. Lt. Col. Daniel C. Pickett will serve as interim superintendent until Nov. 12.
