Movie Plot:
Raju, a passionate villager, is deeply in love with Preeta. However, societal pressure forces Preeta’s father to marry her off to another man, leaving Raju shattered. Betrayed and disillusioned, he begins to treat women with contempt and moves to the city, where he befriends Kaalu. Kaalu introduces him to Rai Sahib, a powerful figure involved in illegal activities. Rai Sahib is impressed by Raju’s boldness and eventually hands over his criminal empire to him, giving him the title “Rai Sahib.”
Meanwhile, Preeta dies during childbirth, leaving behind her daughter Radha. Years pass, and Radha grows up under the care of her aunt Geeta—Preeta’s lookalike—who runs an ashram for unwed mothers. Radha, now a college student, falls in love with her classmate Shyam. At a fundraising event for the ashram, Radha performs a dance once popularized by her mother. Raju, now a wealthy patron of the ashram, is in the audience and is overwhelmed by memories. He becomes emotionally drawn to Radha, unaware of her true identity.
The film explores themes of lost love, moral decay, redemption, and the haunting echoes of the past. With music by Madan Mohan and lyrics by Verma Malik, the soundtrack features evocative songs like “Ek Mutthi Mein Dil”, “Meri Gali Mein Saiyan”, and “Aaj Ki Mehfil”, primarily sung by Asha Bhosle and Mohammed Rafi.
