This song, originally recorded by FEX in the mid-1980s, remained unidentified for decades until a teenager named Darius recorded it off the radio and, years later, sparked the largest online search for a lost song in internet history.
The video was directed by Berlin-based filmmaker Dominik Galizia (Heiko’s Welt, Rock n Roll Ringo), who brought his signature style and interest in the TMMS story to the project. From the beginning, it was clear this visual piece needed to be shot on 16mm film for a warm, nostalgic feel. Using an ARRI SR3 camera and Kodak Vision3 500T stock, the resulting look perfectly matches the emotional texture of the music.
Filming took place in Berlin, including locations connected to the original recording of the track. The story first follows Ture Rückwardt, the original songwriter, in a dreamlike scenario where he and Darius — “brothers in spirit” — seem to share the same space across time.
We included as many original details as possible:
• Ture still had his original lyric notebook, shown publicly here for the first time.
• The Technics SA-K6 cassette deck used by Darius to record the song from the radio was sourced for the shoot.
• We recreated Ture’s 1980s room with authentic props, including his old drum machine (an MFB Fricke), 4-track recorder, vintage Sennheiser headphones, and a Gibson guitar similar to the one he used back then.
• Michael Hädrich’s DX7 keyboard also appears in the video.
The music video features Ture Rückwardt, Michael Hädrich, and Norbert Ziermann as themselves — not actors — giving the video a surreal, time-bending quality. Darius also appears, marking the first time the song’s creators met the person who helped bring the song back to light.
Filming took place at Planet Earth Studios in Berlin, chosen for its vintage audio gear and atmosphere. The result is a loose, dreamlike imagining of the connection between the song's creation and its rediscovery. A visual tribute to the mystery of Subways of Your Mind.
