The Greene Turtle is closing its Towson location because it's no longer profitable since they stopped promotions for "Thirsty Thursdays," the company's business operators said. The surprising announcement came during a Baltimore County Liquor Board hearing in which the board demanded The Greene Turtle tell them why their license shouldn't be revoked or suspended. Operators told the liquor board they have lost $600,000 since deciding to stop promotions for Thirsty Thursdays, a weekly holiday celebrated by college students that has recently gotten out of control, frustrating residents. The Towson restaurant is the company's flagship location, representing a multi-million-dollar investment. "The reality is we can't continue, so we are looking to close this location and work with the landlord to find a termination agreement that will be suitable for all of us," said Geovannie Concepcion, the company's CEO. The Greene Turtle and other bars had been using promotions to drum up business for Thirsty Thursdays, but recently stopped.
