Drivers take notice: Maryland gets new laws on Oct. 1

New fines for speeding and tougher penalties for retail thefts are among hundreds of laws taking effect Wednesday in Maryland. The new fines for speeding could make drivers rethink their lead foot. Eric's Law is another new act connected to driving. Marylanders who have an invisible disability — including anything from deafness to autism, and developmental differences and mental health issues — can get a special butterfly marker on their driver's licenses to help law enforcement officers more effectively handle interactions.
