If there is any element of the original 2003 Fullmetal Alchemist anime that has caught it the most heat from viewers, it may very well be the way it ends. Many find it unsatisfying, unfitting for a narrative like Fullmetal Alchemist and compare it unfavorably to its manga and brotherhood counterparts. Much of this disdain is a result of 2003 being home to by far one of the most infamous late story plot twists I've seen in any Shounen, a plot twist almost solely responsible for the polarizing reception to the ending. But, is that plot twist as bad as it sounds upon closer inspection?
