Study findings could change HIV treatments in children

New study findings could change treatments for HIV in young children. HIV remission may be possible for very young children who begin antiretroviral therapy (ART) hours after birth, according to research published Wednesday in The Lancet HIV that was co-led by an investigator at Johns Hopkins Children's Center. Researchers studied 54 newborns from around the world who received antiretroviral therapy within 48 hours after their birth. Typically, doctors wait weeks, or even months, after birth before starting this therapy.
