Statement by President Cyril Ramaphosa to the Extraordinary BRICS leaders meeting

President Cyril Ramaphosa says the new trading system has adversely affected a number of countries, including South Africa.

He has called on the BRICS countries to work hard to ensure that the global trade system works for everyone.

Ramaphosa addressed the virtual BRICS leaders' extraordinary summit to focus on the current economic environment and the state of the multilateral system.

It comes as a number of countries are reeling after the United States imposed sweeping tariffs.
