Angela Rayner resigns from government over tax affairs row

Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner has resigned from the government following a row over her tax affairs.

She has left her job as Deputy PM and Housing Secretary following a standards report into her tax affairs.

She has also stood down as deputy leader of the Labour Party.

Ms Rayner had referred herself to Ethics watchdog Sir Laurie Magnus on Wednesday. The report was handed to Sir Keir Starmer on Friday, which concluded she had breached the ministerial code.
