"What Took You So Long?" is a song by English singer Emma Bunton from her debut solo studio album, A Girl Like Me (2001). It was released on 2 April 2001 as the album's lead single. The song was written by Bunton, Richard Stannard, Julian Gallagher, Martin Harrington, John Themis and Dave Morgan.
"What Took You So Long?" debuted at number one on the UK Singles Chart on 8 April 2001 with 76,000 copies sold in its first week and remained there for a second week, making it the singer's first and only number-one single in the United Kingdom. The single also topped the charts in New Zealand and Scotland while reaching the top 10 in several countries, including Australia, Ireland and Romania.
The music video for the single was directed by Greg Masuak and shot on 10 and 11 February 2001 in the Mojave Desert in California. One of the B-sides, "(Hey You) Free Up Your Mind", was previously featured on the soundtrack to Pokémon: The First Movie in 1999.
