Spain began their World Cup qualifying campaign with a commanding three nil victory over Bulgaria in Sofia. The visitors took an early lead through Mikel Oyarzabal who finished a superb pass from Martin Zubimendi in the fifth minute. Spain dominated throughout, adding two second half goals to seal a comprehensive win. Despite the scoreline, Bulgarian goalkeeper Svetoslav Vutsov made several spectacular saves, including pushing a Mikel Merino strike onto the crossbar, to prevent an even heavier defeat.
