Emerging from the underground pulse of Detroit’s techno scene in the early ’90s, Marcellus Young crafted a sound both subtle and deep — cool, danceable, and intricately layered. In 1994, he self-released his only album, “Exit From Big D,” pressing just 100 copies after failing to secure a distributor. Sold privately and largely unnoticed outside local circles, the record drifted into obscurity.
Decades later, a YouTube upload sparked unexpected interest, leading Marcellus to connect with Tobias Records. Digging through his archives, he unearthed a cache of unreleased tracks spanning years of quiet experimentation. The result is “Return To Big D” — a rare glimpse into the evolution of an artist whose vision of Detroit techno remains timeless and unmistakably his own.
