Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr is in India on a 5-day state visit. This is President Marcos' first visit to India since assuming office in 2022. Marcos is expected to hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 5. The visit comes as the two countries launched their first joint patrol of the disputed South China Sea, claimed nearly entirely by Beijing. A defence deal is also expected between the two nations as the Philippines eyes buying more defence equipment from New Delhi.
