Hundreds of people gathered in Watkins Park Sunday evening for a candlelight vigil to honor the young life of 13-year-old Mason Kearns. Kearns died after being swept away into a drainage pipe during Thursday evening's flash flood, according to the Mount Airy Police Department. "He was happy, he was always laughing, he was way full of energy. It's just such an empty hole now in the world," said Kearns grandmom Bonnie Errico. "I want them to remember he was a good kid who could've made a lot of good in the world, and he's gone way too soon." The Kearns family said the vigil was held near the skatepark where Mason's family said he used to ride.
