President’s Rule In Manipur Extended For Another Six Months, Says Parliament Bulletin

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has moved a resolution in the Rajya Sabha extending President’s Rule in Manipur for another six months, effective from August 13, 2025, to February 13, 2026. The decision comes at a time when the state has been without an elected government since February, following the resignation of former Chief Minister N Biren Singh. Despite visible calm in many conflict-affected zones, Meitei and Naga MLAs—both part of the ruling NDA—have been lobbying for a return to democratic rule. With no consensus candidate and fragile peace in the valley and hill districts, the Centre has opted for continuation of direct control through Article 356.
