Nurses at St. Agnes Hospital staged a 24-hour strike Thursday over working conditions. Officials at the hospital in Southwest Baltimore told 11 News that 70% of the nursing staff reported for duty and contract workers filled any gaps. According to the National Nurses Organizing Committee and National Nurses United, several issues remain unresolved after 18 months of negotiations. Issues include a staffing shortage, retention concerns and what nurses call "unsafe floating assignments," which is when nurses are sent to unfamiliar areas to work. The union claims between April and July, more than 10% of St. Agnes nurses left, citing poor working conditions.
