Are you ready for the next level? What happens when you try installing Windows 2000 on a Socket 1200 platform? Prepare for surprises—AHCI support via UniATA drivers makes it possible, and we even get multiprocessor functionality thanks to MPS. But what about NVMe, ACPI, or USB 3? With a patched ISO shared by a passionate subscriber and the Windows 2000 community, we can have all of that!

The system in question is a low (very low) budget gaming rig built around a Gigabyte H410 H V2 motherboard ( using the more capable H470 chipset) and an Intel Core i5-10505 CPU. Paired with a 2006 Super GPU (8GB RAM, 256-bit memory bus), a 650W PSU this setup was originally intended for Windows 11. However, the goal was to take it on a retro journey, testing how older operating systems, particularly Windows 2000, handle modern hardware.
What Works:
✅ NVMe SSDs – Near full PCIe Gen 3 speeds (~3.4 GB/s).
✅ ACHI – through backported storahci.sys or UniATA
✅ USB 3.x – Works with mass storage devices and other compatible USB devices
✅ Multi-CPU Support – Detects all 12 logical cores with ACPI, or just two cores when switched to MPS Multiprocessor PC mode.
✅ Onboard Audio & Ethernet – Realtek HD Audio and Gigabit LAN function with official drivers.
✅ Modern GPUs – Up to NVIDIA GTX 400 series (last official Windows 2000 driver from 2010).
What Doesn’t Work (Yet):
❌ UASP Protocol – Many USB 3.0 external drives and SSD enclosures won't work
❌ HDMI Audio (Without Patches) – Installing NVIDIA HDMI audio drivers on stock Windows 2000 bricks the system (requires a patched kernel).
