Emergency repairs complete, water restored following water main break

Emergency repairs are completed along York Road following Friday's major water main break in the Cockeysville area. Since the break, crews worked through Friday night and into Saturday to restore water service to all affected customers. The DPW continues to monitor the system to ensure the water quality remains intact. “That's a very, very quick turnaround,” Baltimore County resident Dominick Clement said. The break is blamed on aging infrastructure. The county says they’re replacing water lines along the York Road corridor but hadn’t gotten to the area of the break yet. "We do understand this is a major inconvenience. We have aging infrastructure in this area. This is part of aging infrastructure,” Baltimore County Department of Public Works and Transportation director Lauren Buckler said Friday. People north of Shawan Road were then advised to conserve water as crews worked on turning water off via small valves leading up to the break before repairs got underway. The main leads to a one-million-gallon water tower, and without it, the tank could not fill up. That's why county leaders set up a distribution site and handed out packs of water to neighbors Saturday morning.
