The Baltimore City Mayor's Office of Immigrant Affairs said they're seeing an increase in immigration scams. It comes as Casa said they're also seeing an increase in scams targeting immigrants they serve. WBAL-TV investigated the reasons behind the rise in scams as leaders at Casa blame the Trump administration's policies. They said the heightened threat of deportation has people so scared and vulnerable, and that's why they're becoming more susceptible to bad actors claiming to have good intentions. Scams have been targeting these communities as fake notice for an immigration appointment at Baltimore City Hall was received by many people. Baltimore City Hall does not handle immigration procedures. Crisaly De Los Santos is the director of Baltimore Central Maryland Casa. "There are a number of different scams that are happening right now, and people are just afraid to report it even after it already happened," De Los Santos said. Casa is an organization that provides services for immigrants and advocates for their rights. She said they, too, are seeing an increase in immigration scams.
