A powerful storm system has hit eastern Slovakia after a period of high temperatures.

The storm brought local winds of more than 100 kilometers per hour and heavy rain, as well as unusually heavy hailstorms.

The city is connected to a cold front, behind which the temperature drops by 15 to 20 degrees.

According to meteorologists, the cooling will be felt most strongly in Zemplín, where temperatures will reach 35 to 37 degrees Celsius.

The strong storm has caused some complications in the eastern metropolis.

Residents reported fallen trees, impassable roads, and damaged air ducts due to strong winds. Trams are currently not running on the Havlíčkova - Náměstie Maratónu mieru line.

"Line 1, 2, 6, 9 operate only up to the Amphitheatre. Replacement bus services have been introduced on the Amphitheatre - Havlíčkova section and back," warns the Košice City Transport Company (DPMK).

There are delays and disruptions on all tram lines due to emergencies and stranded trams.

A level three storm warning is in effect for the districts of Bardejov, Prešov, Sabinov, Stropkov, Svidník and Vranov nad Topľou.
