Founded by Mike Weiss and his father Sam Weiss—who had earlier launched the legendary SAM Records, Nervous carried on a family legacy rooted in the NYC underground music. After briefly reviving SAM in ’89, Mike took radio legend Frankie Crocker’s advice and launched a label with its own identity. The result: a gritty, stylish powerhouse that helped define the '90s house sound.

With its unmistakable graffiti tag logo and a fearless approach to A&R, Nervous championed raw, soulful, and bumpin' grooves that lit up clubs from the Shelter to the Sound Factory. Whether it was deep vocal anthems, stripped-down dub workouts, or gospel-tinged garage heat, Nervous brought it all-pure NY grit with a dancefloor soul.
