FX’s Alien Earth is expanding the Alien franchise in a massive way this summer, bringing in new evil corporations and a lead protagonist that’s not quite human.
In the first-ever Alien tv series, when a mysterious space vessel crash-lands on Earth, a young woman and a ragtag group of tactical soldiers make a fateful discovery that puts them face-to-face with the xenomorph.
The young woman in question is Wendy (Sydney Chandler), the first hybrid introduced in the Alien franchise. Whereas a synthetic is a humanoid robot with artificial intelligence, a hybrid is a humanoid robot infused with human consciousness. Wendy is a young girl consciousness inhabiting the body of an adult robot, and she’s sent to the frontlines with fellow hybrids when the ill-fated Weyland-Yutani spaceship crash lands in Prodigy City, unleashing its collected specimens upon Earth’s unsuspecting inhabitants – including the Xenomorph.
It’s Wendy who will be at the forefront of this highly anticipated alien fx series, and it certainly sounds as though she’ll be caught between human predators and xenomorphs.
In the year 2120 — two years prior to the events of Alien and 16 years after Alien Covenant — the Earth is governed by five corporations: Prodigy, Weyland-Yutani, Lynch, Dynamic, and Threshold.
In this Corporate Era, hybrids (a robot infused with human consciousness) and synthetics (humanoid robots with artificial intelligence) exist alongside humans. But the game is changed when the wunderkind Founder and CEO of Prodigy Corporation unlocks a new technological advancement: hybrids (humanoid robots infused with human consciousness).
As seen in the alien earth gestation teaser, the first hybrid prototype, named Wendy, marks a new dawn in the race for immortality. After Weyland-Yutani’s spaceship collides with Prodigy City, Wendy and the other hybrids encounter mysterious life forms more terrifying than anyone could have ever imagined.
Alien Earth will premiere with two episodes on August 12 at 8pm on FX and Hulu in the US and Disney Plus internationally. New episodes will follow weekly on Tuesdays at 8pm through September 23. The eight-episode alien prequel series is created by Noah Hawley, who directs the first episode. Alien 1979 director Ridley Scott also executive produces.
Alien Earth also stars Alex Lawther, Essie Davis, Samuel Blenkin, David Rysdahl, Adrian Edmondson, Adarsh Gourav, Jonathan Ajayi, Erana James, Lily Newmark, Diem Camille, and Moe Bar-El.
