Synopsis:
A foreign merchant ship named Maria collides with and sinks a fishing boat in domestic waters, while also capsizing a smuggling vessel at the same time. The situation quickly spirals into chaos—fishermen demand justice, gangsters attempt extortion, and the ship’s captain denies responsibility—leaving investigators without a clear starting point. As Maria’s return date approaches, Captain Hasegawa receives a threatening letter, triggering a terrifying memory: in the foggy dawn, a massive ship surges through the waves, a mast suddenly crashes down with a deafening mix of splintering and roaring water.
One evening, in the second-floor private room of the Sakura Theater, a young woman dressed like a fisherman’s daughter bursts in, demanding her “grandfather.” Police detective Sitou Mingjie steps in. First Officer Yamano receives a court summons delivered by a driver in a judge’s robe, leading him into the theater’s restaurant where a bandaged man awaits by a lavish feast. As Yamano hesitates, the man reveals a photo—Yamano understands instantly and tries to flee, only to be blocked by a burly figure.
Out at sea, smuggling ring leader Li Shu rows desperately. Two “water ghosts” open floating bottles filled with U.S. dollars. Sitou and his team give chase in a speedboat. In panic, the smugglers’ motorboat crashes into the cliffs of Black Valley.
At the International Seamen’s Club, Sitou catches a glimpse of singer Yan Hong on stage. Memories flood back: in the burning ruins of a factory, masked men dragged her away as a thug ripped off his clothes amid manic laughter. Her desperate screams pierced the sky. Yan Hong sees Sitou too. Overcome with emotion, she rushes into the arms of her old flame, sobbing uncontrollably. Shufang, following behind, watches and suddenly succumbs to a violent rage. In that moment, Yan Hong notices a scar on Shufang’s neck—the same one she saw glowing in the firelight of that tragic night.
Shufang’s body is soon dumped outside the club. Sitou pushes through the crowd and finds Yan Hong pale, clutching a letter addressed to him. Inside are two tear-blurred lines: “Please kiss me like before. It might help you.” He gently lifts her head and loosens the long hair coiled behind it—out rolls a hidden film reel, containing key evidence of the crime. Sitou kisses her forehead with tears in his eyes—one final, deep farewell.
With the cooperation of the Maritime Court, Sitou finally unravels the case, delivers a crushing blow to the criminal syndicate, and teaches a hard lesson to the foreign ship captain.
