The Maryland Alcohol Tobacco and Cannabis Commission (ATCC) served several Southeast Baltimore businesses with search and seizure warrants on Wednesday.
ATCC Executive Director, Jeffrey Kelly told 11 News Investigates they were serving warrants to businesses who are under suspicion of selling illegal marijuana products.
Kelly did not release the names of all the businesses, which included smoke shops, but said agents went to four locations in Fells Point and one in Federal Hill. However, Kelly did confirm the 8th Kingdom Marijuana Weed Dispensary was one of the four locations in Fells Point.
"I walked by, and I saw a lot of police officers, a lot of police detectives with the ATCC insignia on their chest, and they were hauling out boxes and boxes of material," said Edward Marcinko, a Fells Point resident. "I heard rumors in the neighborhood, allegedly they were selling unregulated products (and) that disturbs me. We have schools within two, three blocks of this."
The ATCC said sometimes places will label themselves as dispensaries despite not being licensed through the Maryland Cannabis Administration. Without being licensed through the state, Kelly said it's illegal to be selling certain THC products.
