How to Turn Off the Closed Captions & Subtitles on Netflix App (Easy Method)

To turn off closed captions and subtitles on the Netflix app using your Firestick, follow these steps while watching something.

Start by playing any show or movie on Netflix through your Firestick. Once it’s playing, pause the video using your Firestick remote by pressing the center select button or the pause button if your remote has one. Next, press the Up button on your remote to bring up the playback controls. You’ll see a row of icons at the top of the screen. Look for the speech bubble icon—this is the one for audio and subtitles. Highlight it by moving right or left with the remote, then press the center select button.

A menu will pop up with two tabs: Audio and Subtitles. Move to the Subtitles section if it’s not already selected. You’ll see options like “English,” “Spanish,” or whatever languages are available for that title, along with an Off option. Scroll down to Off using the down button on your remote, then press select to choose it. The menu will close automatically, or you can press the Back button (the left arrow) on your remote to exit. Resume playback by pressing select again, and the subtitles or captions should be gone.

If they’re still on, it might be due to your Netflix profile settings. While in the Netflix app, press the Left button to open the side menu. Scroll down to Get Help and select it. Choose Manage Subtitles or Reload if available—some versions let you tweak settings here. If not, you’ll need to log in to Netflix on a phone or computer, go to Account, then Subtitle Appearance or Playback Settings, and ensure subtitles are off by default.
