Women more frequently get painful 'trigger finger'

A condition called "trigger finger" is more common among women than men. Dr. Clayton Alexander, an orthopedic surgeon at Mercy Medical Center's Shoulder, Elbow, Wrist and Hand Center, told 11 News that, in medicine, "trigger finger" is a type of tendonitis in the palm that causes a triggering or clicking sensation that can be very painful. Alexander said he usually sees it in older women who will notice pain. He said a patient's finger may get stuck or make a pop or click sound when they grasp something or make a fist. He said part of the reason it's two to six times more likely in women. First, it has to do with their small hands.
