City recognized for first peaceful civil rights sit-in

It has been 70 years since Baltimore made history with the first peaceful sit-in against segregation. It happened in 1955 at Read's Drug Store. In January 1955, a group of Morgan State University students, along with members of the Congress of Racial Equality, were waiting for a bus on a bitterly cold day. They went into Read's at Lexington and Howard streets seeking warmth.
