Final Destination Bloodlines co-director Zach Lipovsky says the upcoming sixth installment of the horror movie franchise will differ from the previous final destination movies. The film marks Lipovsky’s third directorial collaboration with Emmy-nominated Adam Stein.
During a recent interview with SFX Magazine, Lipovsky hinted at what fans can expect from Bloodlines, teasing the new elements they’ve added to the story. The first premonition takes place in 1969. There are lots of deaths during the premonition, which is what normally happens in the opening sequence of a Final Destination movie, but we then come out of the eye of a different person in the modern day.
"For a lot of fans, I think that's going to immediately throw them for a loop. It's going to make them lean forward to try and figure out what's going on," Lipovsky continued. "As moviegoers, we love it when you have to lean forward in your seat because a movie is being unpredictable. We switch up a lot of the predictability, including who's going to die next and how they are going to die."
You might think it's one person, but it's not. There's a delight in that. The horror movie franchise was created by writer Jeffrey Reddick, who originally developed the story as a TV episode. He ultimately turned the spec script into a screenplay for a feature-length movie.
Per the official synopsis, Final Destination Bloodlines is the newest chapter in New Line Cinema’s bloody successful Final Destination horror franchise that takes audiences back to the very beginning of Death’s twisted sense of justice. Plagued by a violent recurring nightmare, college student Stefanie heads home to track down the one person who might be able to break the cycle and save her family from the grisly demise that inevitably awaits them all.
Lipovsky and Stein directed Final Destination 6 from a screenplay by Scream 7 writer Guy Busick, based on a story by filmmaker Jon Watts. The final destination bloodlines cast features Kaitlyn Santa Juana, Teo Briones, Richard Harmon, Owen Patrick Joyner, Anna Lore, with Brec Bassinger, and the late Tony Todd in his last appearance as William Bludworth.
Throughout the franchise, Todd’s character has been the go-to expert on how to deal with Death. His rules on how to survive or avoid Death’s curse have been one of the most memorable aspects of each movie.
