Community advocates reflect on how west Baltimore's Sandtown-Winchester neighborhood became a focal point for justice. Several murals adorn the neighborhood in memory of Freddie Gray. One depicts Gray's life and the marches following his death while in police custody, while another proclaims "The power of the people." Tensions in Baltimore overflowed following Gray's death in April 2015, starting with a flash mob of students and growing into a full-blown uprising. Community advocates said text and other messages were calls to action that got them to first go to the Mondawmin Mall area before heading to east Baltimore, near Johns Hopkins Hospital and Monument Street.
