The Doula Alliance of Maryland said the maternal mortality rate for Black Maryland mothers is 2.3 times higher than white moms. During Black Maternal Health Week, the alliance said access to more doulas can significantly reduce the mortality rate. Doulas can help women have healthy pregnancies and births — especially Black women.
