Child care expanded amid possible federal funding cuts

Howard County is expanding funding for child care amid an increased need, federal worker layoffs and federal funding potentially drying up. The county is distributing a $1 million grant to 27 child care centers and home day care facilities, officials announced Thursday. Grants range from $12,000 to $165,000 as part of the Howard County Economic Development Authority's Childcare Capital Grant. Officials credit the funding for 100 new child care placements.
