Syria's President Ahmed al-Sharaa has announced the formation of a transitional government.
Sharaa says the new cabinet will rebuild state institutions, ensure the protection of citizens, and promote stability.
The announcement of the transitional government, comes after the end of 50 years of dictatorship by the Assad family in November.

Qutaiba Idlbi is a senior fellow with the Atlantic Council's Rafik Hariri Center and Middle East programs. He says Sharaa is trying to make a statement with the appointments in his new government.
