Congresswoman Elise Stefanik has lost her nomination as United Nations Ambassador, the White House confirmed on Thursday.
President Donald Trump posted about the withdrawn nomination on Truth Social, saying it was critical for Stefanik to remain in Congress to maintain a Republican majority.
One of Trump's most vocal supporters, Stefanik was at one time rumored to among a short list of candidates for vice president leading up to the 2024 election. Trump ultimately chose JD Vance as his vice president.
House Speaker Mike Johnson called Stefanik "a truly great leader and a devoted patriot" and said her "selfless decision" was an example to others.
