MDTA signed contract to study Bay Bridge vulnerability

The Maryland Transportation Authority entered into a $600,000 contract in April 2024 with a company to conduct a vulnerability study on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, 11 News Investigates has learned. The contract was signed on April 9, 2024, to evaluate and study protection for the Bay Bridge, 11 News Investigates has learned. Sources told 11 News Investigates that the MDTA signed the agreement with Moffatt and Nichol, a global company in business for the past 75 years. The agreement was completed through an existing $160 million MDTA contract. 11 News Investigates was told the company is tasked with evaluating and studying bridge protection for the Bay Bridge and that the evaluation phase is now complete, and safety recommendations will be made this summer.
