The Baltimore Center Stage theater group is willing to forgo $30,000 worth of federal funding to maintain its diversity, equity and inclusion programs. New guidelines from the National Endowment for the Arts prohibit theaters from performing shows that promote gender ideology or diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) in a way that violates federal anti-discrimination laws, if those theaters want federal grant money. That's in compliance with President Donald Trump's executive orders. Even though those orders are still working their way through the court system, leaders at Baltimore Center Stage said they're willing to forgo federal funds to proceed with performing shows that they say are important to the Baltimore community.
