The Games of 2004! How Many Did You Play?

A look at 100 games that were released in 2004!

Like 1994, 2004 was another stellar year for gaming! Some absolutely all-time great titles like Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Burnout 3 and Ninja Gaiden. Consoles were still going strong as the XBox and PS2 hit their stride - even the GameCube was getting some amazing titles like Metroid Prime 2: Echoes and Pikmin 2. And of course the PC received Half-Life 2 ... UT2K4, Rome: Total War ... the list goes on. And then of course, there's the behemoth that was (is still?) World of Warcraft.

However, in a marked difference from 10 years earlier, many of these games were newest additions to existing franchises. Metal Gear Solid 3! The Sims 2! Tekken 5! Hitman: Contracts! All solid additions to their franchises.

There were, of course, some new franchises starting out - Far Cry revolutionized the FPS genre; Fable brought action-RPGs to console gamers; Red Dead Revolver kicked off the western franchise and Star Wars Battlefront's latest iteration is still getting played today! (Still waiting on that sequel for Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines though...)

2004 was indeed an amazing year! But was it better than 1994?
