English Subtitles Are Great for Learning Japanese

Contrary to the mainstream advice to turn on closed captions and watch Japanese content with Japanese subtitles, I argue that using English subtitles is more effective for learning Japanese if you're an intermediate or even an "advanced beginner."

TIMESTAMPS:
0:00 intro + some clarifications
0:59 context + background
1:51 But if you think about it...
2:32 You just don't say some things
2:56 Japanese vs English ways of expression
4:31 the important part
4:50 why intermediates?
5:25 why only Japanese?
5:48 Japanese subtitles aren't that useful
6:24 potential problems with subtitles
6:40 conclusion begins + the REALLY important part
