Titanic launch into Belfast Harbour (1911), fit out and beginning of voyage to Southampton (1912).

The Seedling team has put together this short video that showcases some of the spectacular high resolution imagery National Museums Northern Ireland holds in its archives. The images were provided for an Ulster-Scots educational project we delivered, which is named "My Yarns". We believe this is the first time the Titanic being launched into Belfast Harbour has been visualised with such clarity.

Construction on the Titanic began on 31 March, 1909. At the peak of construction, Harland and Wolff shipyard employed approximately 14,000 men to build the enormous ships. It took over one year to fully frame the Titanic. Large steel plates were then riveted to the frame. By 31 May, 1911 Titanic's hull was ready to be launched into Belfast Harbour ready for the Harland and Wolff team to finish her. Thousands of people lined the shores of the lough to witness the largest man-made object in the world be launched into the water.

Titanic is one of three eras covered in the new Key Stage 2 Ulster-Scots educational resource, My Yarns, which is available to all schools in Northern Ireland. Also included on the site are sections on Victorians and World War I. Built using the Seedling authoring platform, My Yarns features archive materials that help recreate the sights and sounds of the three decades from the end of the 19th Century to the conclusion of the Great War.
