Police on duty near canal at Persimmon Estate in Ettingshall, Wolverhampton, after a person falls into the canal

The public were urged to avoid the canal tow-path near Ettingshall Road as a person was taken to hospital after falling into the water. Ambulance personnel later confirmed a boy had sadly died having been pulled from the water.
