On Sunday, October 30, 2022, at 3:53 a.m., Officer Klein of the Sarasota Police Department, on uniformed marked patrol duties within the City of North Port, Sarasota County, approached a red traffic light situated at the intersection of North Cranberry Blvd and North Toledo Blade Blvd. During this patrol, Officer Klein noticed a black Hyundai sedan positioned beyond the painted stop bar and crosswalk. The vehicle was situated in a manner that nearly occupied the intersection while waiting for the traffic signal to cycle. The driver showed apparent signs of impairment, such as bloodshot eyes, slurred speech, and the scent of alcohol. It was revealed that the driver's license was suspended, which they acknowledged. Subsequent sobriety tests resulted in poor performance, leading to arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence and operating a vehicle with a suspended license.

Upon searching the vehicle, open containers of alcohol were discovered. Despite refusal to undergo a breath test, citations were issued, and the individual was taken into custody. The legal proceedings concerning this incident are ongoing.
