Liberty City, 1971

Tommy Vercetti is the main protagonist of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. He is a former member of the Forelli crime family and was released from prison in 1986 after serving a 15-year sentence for murder. Upon returning to Liberty City, he is sent to Vice City by the Forelli's to establish a drug trade, but is soon betrayed and left for dead.

After surviving an attempt on his life, Tommy begins to work his way up the criminal ladder in Vice City. He becomes involved in a turf war with Ricardo Diaz, a drug lord and leader of the Diaz Cartel. Using his connections and ruthlessness, Tommy is able to defeat Diaz and take over his drug empire.

During his time in Vice City, Tommy gains a reputation as a fearsome and ruthless enforcer. One of his most notorious acts is known as "The Harwood Butcher", where he kills eleven members of a rival gang in the Harwood area of Vice City.

Throughout the game, Tommy is aided by a variety of characters, including his lawyer Ken Rosenberg, the Cuban gang leader Umberto Robina, and his love interest Mercedes Cortez. By the end of the game, Tommy emerges as the most powerful and influential criminal in Vice City.
