This is a restored version of The Varrow Mission (1978), which was retitled into the more popularly known TeenAlien in the 80's as part of a VHS rerelease.

TeenAlien is a quaint little piece of Utah sci-fi alien invasion fluff that was created by a man from the Czech Republic and some writers who have since disappeared. I was able to track down the man who made the most important piece of the movie, the alien Varrow, and interviewed him. Check the comments for that interview.

Regarding this movie, I took and combined two VHS copies here into a final edition, which I call The Varrow Mission Edition. The first version was an original VHS copy of The Varrow Mission, which I ripped myself as part of my new and sick addiction to VHS preservation. The other copy was a preexisting rip of TeenAlien, which was obtained in places I don't want to sully or spoil or call out. Rest assured I appreciate that person who made that rip because they introduced the movie to me!

I combined the two versions to get the best picture quality possible. The TeenAlien rip had better nighttime and dark scene colors, while the Varrow Mission VHS I ripped had better day time scenes and less washed out colors. The majority of the footage is from the TeenAlien rip, in about a 70/30 split.

There were a few other differences in my tape and the TeenAlien rip, such as slight editing differences. I patiently watched for differences and added basically all cut footage from either edition back into the movie. This edition now contains longer broom scenes! Additional spider-footage! Wow! The biggest change is the title, which I have left as The Varrow Mission!

I also found out the masters used for both film versions have a weird defect where the movie shifts up and down in various scenes for no real reason other than a telecine editor may have been driven to drink while working on this film. Fun!

I have restored the movie as best as possible. I removed tracking issues from both versions, sometimes by editing from one version to another and back in rapid succession. If you notice a blip or blorp I missed, remember I am not perfect. Please accept my apologies. I have probably watched The Varrow Mission more than any other human on Earth at this point in an attempt to catch these issues! Have mercy!

What's worse, I have added digital coloration improvements and lighting improvements to the movie. These changes were made with cheap software, so they may look terrible. I think the changes were essential to making the movie viewable because most of the movie takes place in the dark and was practically indiscernible, beforehand. Just remember, you aren't paying for it and I think it looks nice!

With that said, if you want my ideas on the movie, you can watch my review of the movie, which doesn't contain my thoughts, but funny things I tell myself to copy with watching bad movies: https://youtu.be/-h9_ME_pXfM

Enjoy! And if you don't, sue me!

....

Please don't sue me!
