KORNIDZOR/Կոռնիձոր (ARMENIA) - After doing a press tour of Ukraine in Autumn 2022, I decided, on the recommendation of friends and colleagues, to visit Armenia and the South Caucasus region in a self-directed effort to learn more about the Azerbaijan-Armenia conflict and the ongoing political and humanitarian fallout of the First and Second Nagorno-Karabakh Wars.

When I arrived, Azerbaijan was in the process of establishing a checkpoint on the Lachin corridor, leaving thousands of Armenians living in Karabakh ("Artsakh") stranded. I decided to travel as close as possible, on the Armenian side, in order to discover firsthand accounts of displacement and combatant testimony. Gayane and I ended up getting closer than either of us imagined.
